A BREEAM-NL project has a demonstrable added value
Certification by BREEAM-NL means a project have actually proved to be a sustainable project. Sustainable projects are popular with tenants and users. BREEAM assesses sustainability in the broadest sense
Sustainability is not just about saving energy. It is also about health. BREEAM-NL assesses buildings according to nine sustainability criteria. Thus, it is an integral sustainability certification. Each of these categories of land use and environment protection, pollution, management, health, energy, transport, water, materials, waste, have their own assessment criteria for respective scores. This results in an overall score expressed in stars.

MAT5 Substantiated origin of materials
In addition to the environmental impact by the materials used, it is also important that building materials are recovered and produced in a responsible manner. To assess this category, BREEAM has a maximum of 4 points assigned to buildings which used adequate materials with a substantiated origin. Using MAT5, a BREEAM credit-based assessment for origin of materials, BREEAM rates the use of products from manufacturers who have an active and certified environment.
